Oh crap

Today, I read on MLIA on how someone realized that two years ago, in the year of the cow, we had mad cow disease. Then in the year of the chicken, avian flu. And now, in the year of the pig, swine flu. I then realized that in 2012, it's the year of the dragon. Now I know why the world is going to end. MLIA.

Yeah, I am a self-proclaimed skeptic of the whole 2012 thing. But reading that did remind me of something I read in a book once regarding Nordic mythology. It was about a sea-serpent that supposedly lies coiled around the Universe:

"Jörmungandr (pronounced [ˈjœrmuŋɡandr], mostly known as Jormungand or Jörmungand, the Midgard Serpent, Midgårdsormen, or World Serpent, is, in Norse mythology, a sea serpent, and the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and the god Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children, Fenrisúlfr, Hel and Jörmungandr. He tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that he was able to surround the Earth and grasp his own tail. When he lets go the world will end. As a result he earned the alternate name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent."

No, I am not going to start spewing conspiracy theories & whatnot. I just think it's interesting.

But if the world IS going to end in 2012, then why the heck do I need to study Physics?

DIY: Gift tags

Bob

I admit, i am not really in the Christmas mood this year. Not as much as I usually am, anyhow. Probably due to the ghastly mocks, impending exams, and other nonsense. But I am trying.

One tradition that I have is to make gift tags. You know all those pretty, expensive looking catalogues you get in the mail mid-November? It seems such a waste to just throw it away after the 25th, especially since some of them are made of really awesome materials, with gorgeous textures and prints (PRINTS!) and shiny, shininess (SHINY!!). Luxury bath stores, eg Crabtree & Evelyn pwn in this department. The green thing to do is to recycle it.

Tools: Catalogues, glue, ruler, pencil, blade, flat brush, scissors, card paper & a rolling pin.

Yup. Nice, no?

Cut the card, ensuring that it is twice the length that you want it to be since you will be folding it. Use this piece as a guide to cut out a piece of card paper for the inside of the tag.

Fold it in half, lengthwise. The rolling pin comes in handy around here, ensuring a nice clean fold. Put a few dots on one side of the card, spreading it with a flat brush (make sure you soak the brush in hot water to remove the glue, otherwise it will harden).

Place the card paper on top of the glue neatly. Once again, the rolling pin is your friend. Trim the edges.

Voila! 16 beautiful gift tags, made from only two pages.

Well, things are looking up now since I passed my driving test. Funny story for later that one. Now I feel like baking. Suggestions?

Might be uploading dome DIY stuff in the next few days, if I can find my camera batteries. the story is this: baby sister took the camera up to Genting, along with battery charger. Comes back, gives me back the charger. No camera. Find the camera, sans battery. Where is it? No idea. between her and my mummy, it has disappeared. Le sigh.
